The Blindfold Challenge - Change the way you see things!
The Carroll Center for the Blind is thrilled to introduce the all-new Blindfold Challenge as part of this year's 5K and Walk for INDEPENDENCE. The Blindfold Challenge aims to bring awareness about the impact vision loss can have on an individual as well as insight as to how crucial the services offered by The Carroll Center for the Blind are to those in need. By joining this challenge, you will test your skills, open your mind, and sharpen your senses while experiencing running in an unique way--without relying on your eye sight. Blindfold Challenge participants will run in teams of two: one member will wear a blindfold and the other will guide. Prior to starting your challenge, you must complete the training session on Saturday, April 17th at 10am.

Mission
The Carroll Center for the Blind’s mission is to empower those who are blind or visually impaired to achieve independence and to lead a fulfilling life. As a leader in vision rehabilitation services for individuals confronted by the challenges of vision loss, we are looking for individuals to help share the importance of our impact. We proudly serve individuals of all ages and all stages of vision loss through a variety of programs such as: assistive technology, vocational training, educational support, essential skills support, orientation and mobility, independent living, and so much more.

The Purpose of the Blindfold Challenge

  • To participate in something unique that takes you out of your comfort zone and helps you understand why losing vision should not limit anyone’s world.
  • To allow sighted participants to understand the importance and impact that vision has on each of our lives.
  • To highlight the need for Carroll Center services, such as Orientation and Mobility training.

What to expect as a “Guide”

  • To share in the responsibility of your partner's safety.
  • To thoughtfully convert what you’re seeing into timely verbal instructions for your nonvisual teammate.

When
You will be able to participate anytime, anywhere, and with anyone you choose throughout the month of April. Then, on Sunday, April 25th, we will celebrate together on a live Zoom event all of the wonderful support and efforts made. The funds raised enables The Carroll Center for the Blind to provide life-changing training for people of all ages and stages of vision loss.

Support
Educational training will be provided for participants by experienced runners to help participants successfully and safely complete the challenge. We will also offer support and tools to help you with training for the challenge and fundraising along the way. All people who complete the challenge will receive a finisher's medal and swag for their accomplishments!
